X-Factor #249 (HERE BE SPOILERS!)

First, "But, we can't turn into a Lifetime movie when right now it's Showtime!" made me LOL.  Oh, Peter David.  God, I hope you're OK.

I think the most notable part of this issue is how well the newly pruned team is gelling.  In Madro'x absence, Lorna steps into the leadership role here and it fits her quite well.  Rather than setting up the sort of testosterone-driven conflict over leadership that we saw with Alex and Madrox, the emergence of Lorna as a team leader could work quite well, with Lorna leading the team in the field and Madrox handling them in the investigations.  Madrox himself notes how well the team does in tackling the horde of demons, managing to be everywhere at once.  It's another sign that we're in a new status quo.

We don't really get any answers about why the demons have targeted X-Factor for destruction, but David makes it pretty clear that we're going to get them.  In the meantime, we get some pretty great action sequences, particularly those involving a furious Monet looking for revenge not only on Pip, for taking over her body, but her team members, who laughed when Pip revealed what he had done.  (I loved that she didn't kilL Rictor simply as a sign of thanks to Shatterstar, who didn't laugh.)  Anyway, it's all very Monet.  I mean, sure, I tend to agree that she has a right to be angry, but the fact that she can't get over herself enough to realize that she should probably be more concerned with averting the end of the world (or, at least, the Bronx) than exacting her revenge in that moment just really sums up Monet.  It also conveniently allows for hilarity like the above quote, so it's a win/win in terms of characterization and comedy.

We've been a little hit or miss in "X-Factor" lately as David wraps up some dangling threads and moves us into this new status quo.  But, I feel like we've emerged from the transition period with this issue and are ready to dive into a pretty stellar arc.  Good times, as always.
