I cover a lot of different titles, with some particular attention to the previous runs of "Spider-Man 2099" and "Nova." Welcome back, Richard! Until next time, Miguel.

Captain Marvel #10 (HERE BE SPOILERS!)
This issue is...odd. At moments, it has the same sort of feel of last issue, a day-in-the-life story that shows us Carol dealing with the repercussions of her doctor ordering her not to fly. But, it also has a confusing segment where she prevents a subway train from falling into a sinkhole and then a sudden attack by Deathbird that implies that I should know more about their relationship than I do. In the end, it just wound up an odd jumble of moments that didn't really come together as well as they did last issue. I'm not quite sure what else to say. I'm hoping that we focus on Deathbird next issue, since she certainly merits it.

Okay, so it's not just me. I know nothing about Deathbird and she was handled here like she'd actually appeared in this series before, even a quick thought blurb like "Deathbird used to be a such and such before she went nuts and now she blames me for blah blah blah" would have helped explain her a bit.
ReplyDeleteYeah, no clue, dude. I mean, I've read Avengers for a long damn time, but I can't remember any special connection between Deathbird and Carol. She seems to imply that it has to due with the Psyche-Magnetron, which gave Carol her powers, but she got those powers from Mar-Vell, who, um, wasn't Shi'Ar. Bizarre.
