Grayson #2 (HERE BE SPOILERS!)

Some thoughts, in no particular order:

1) Spyral clearly knows that Dick was Nightwing, since everyone knows that he was Nightwing.  As such, I have to assume that it also knows that it can't trust him, since he's a good guy at heart, and that it assumes that he's informing on his actions to Batman.  It just doesn't really make sense otherwise.  It's not clear to me if Mr. Minos and Helena know that Dick knows that Spyral's goal is to expose superheroes, but, even if they didn't, it just seems like they'd have to assume that he'll learn eventually and betray them.  I'm assuming, then, that the plan is to use his unique abilities for as long as Spyral can until he becomes a liability.  It makes sense, and I sort of feel like it's the unspoken rule of this series.

2) Spyral gets another super-powered organ, and you have to wonder if it's building its own superhero.  We still don't know the connection between Spyral collecting these organs and its goal of unveiling superheroes' identities, but it seems possible that it's going to create its own super-powered being to accomplish this goal.  It also seems possible that this Paragon entity that seems to be responsible for the organs is also responsible for Midnighter, but, again, it's not entirely clear how that connects to all the other plots.

3) Seeley stresses that Dick is struggling with the idea of being "dead," showing not only concern over Alfred and Barbara's reaction, but also reminiscing with Bruce about old times.  In a weird way -- a way that totally makes sense in the context of their relationship -- Bruce and Dick seem to be getting closer as a result of Bruce serving as Dick's only link to his previous life.  Moreover, it raises some interesting issues about trust.  "Batman" #1, we learned that Alfred had the highest classification level in terms of his access to Bruce's database, implying that Bruce trusted Alfred the most.  But, if he's not telling Alfred that Dick is alive, how much does he really trust him?  Has he started to trust Dick more?

*** (three of five stars)
