OK, Groot-Venom is probably the coolest thing ever.
That said, it's nice to return to a Guardians-focused issue. We've been all over the place in this series, between the "Original Sin" tie-in issues and the constantly changing roster. (Captain Marvel is still listed as a member of the team on the intro page, even though I think that she's only appeared in, like, two issues ever.) But, Bendis returns to basics. He notes that the team is in a bad place and it makes sense that they are. After all, Peter just revealed that Nova sacrificed himself to save him and Drax in the "Original Sin" tie-in issues and, before that, the team had been captured one-by-one and forced to confront their own personal nightmares. It makes sense that they're all a little edge-y.
The loose end from the "personal nightmares" story is that Flash was lost in space. Bendis returns to that here and it goes pretty well. Although it's somewhat convenient that Gamora stumbles upon him on Knowhere, it sort of makes sense that Flash would go to a place where Drax took him for help (since he doesn't know anywhere else to go) and that Gamora would be looking to have a chat with a weapons merchant. Also, it makes sort of make sense that Flash has less control over the symbiote now that he's not on Earth, since he's pretty clearly off his game in space. Bendis implies that it's more than that here and I have to admit that I'm excited that we seem to finally be getting to the bottom of the symbiote and its origins.
In other words, this issue actually reads like a "Guardians of the Galaxy" issue. Here's hoping that it stays that way.
