OMG, I actually liked this issue! No Kiddie Hellfire Club! Actual focus on students! Yay!
If you (wisely) haven't been reading this title because of the lack of attention paid to the School's students, this issue isn't a bad one to get. We see Quentin get successfully manipulated by Logan into assuming something like a leadership role and Idie contemplate how awful her life has become as she supervises a regressed Broo. (Speaking of Idie, I continue to be amazed that no teacher has taken her under his or her wing, particularly given that the School was essentially founded because of her. Someone needs to talk to this girl about why she's not a sinner or, at least, help her to reconcile her "sin" into a larger context. Maybe Father Madrox could pay a visit? Also, everyone seemed to know that the Kiddie Hellfire Club shot Broo (though I don't remember that revelation previously happening), but no one seems to realize that he was there because Idie was getting help from a fake priest. They all just all seem to be suffering from a great lack of curiosity when it comes to her and I have to hope someone will step into the breach. In the meantime, though, Aaron does a good job of showing how isolated she feels.)
I'm still not sure how long I'm going to keep getting this title, with "Uncanny X-Men" now having returned. But, I'm game as long as this arc lasts at the very least.
So it only took Jason Aaron 25 issues to get away from the Kiddie Hellfire Club? I'm a bit disappointed that they didn't show up here. :P Joking!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea that this issue actually focused on the kids, because that was honestly my main gripe with it when I was reading. You'd think this series would be more like New Mutants/Academy X(before everybody I liked was killed...), Generation X, or even the original New Mutants and would look at the kids(and maybe a select older character who is attached to the book and not showing up anywhere else). If that's the direction this series heads, and the students actually get personalities beyond surly and/or angry, plus we get away from the Kiddie Hellfire Club? I'd definitely start this series up again. I'd make room on my pull list, because, when written right, I love me some teenage mutant drama!
